| Batanes March 2000
Located in the northernmost boundary of the Philippines, the tiny islands of Batanes are cut off from the larger land mass of northern Luzon and are exposed to the full force of wind and water where the South China Sea and the Pacific Ocean merge. In this place of rugged natural beauty, the Ivatan inhabitants have developed a distinctively enduring culture. The powerful elements have shaped the character of the Ivatan people. I went to Batanes because I was attracted by the unique landscape, remote location, and separation from mainstream influences.
